Among Us VR to Bring The Imposters to Life

By Lynn Zhuo

InnerSloth LLC announced that the VR version of their popular multiplayer game Among Us is going to release in 2022 at The Game Awards 2021 and dropped its trailer on the same day, which excited many players.

What to Expect in Among Us VR

According to InnerSloth, the new version will make the game “move from a 2D to a first-person, 3D experience that places players in the heart of the Skeld.” As its trailer shows, a player typing numbers on a keyboard while an imposter suddenly shows up and attacks him. From the first-person perspective, it is hard for players to see who is behind their back, which brings a thrilling and immersive experience.

According to InnerSloth, the new version will retain “the same core mechanics from the original game.” Therefore, there will be four to ten players on a spaceship together trying to make their spaceship work properly, while one or more players will be the imposters trying to kill the other players. The VR version “presents a perfect pairing of the runaway success of the original game and the upward trajectory of the virtual reality ecosystem,” said Jesse Schell, CEO of Schell Games LLC.

Release Date and The Headset Platforms

Other details and the release date are secrets for now. InnerSloth only announced that Among Us VR is expected to release in early 2022. Players can play the VR version on a variety of headsets including Meta Quest, PlayStation VR, and SteamVR.

Recent Updates

For now, players can enjoy the four new roles, which were updated last month. Players can also look forward to the release of Among Us on Xbox consoles, Game Pass, PS4, and PS5 on December 14. The Among Us collector’s editions are releasing in December. The collector’s editions include the Crewmate Edition, Impostor Edition, and the Ejected Edition, which cost 30, 50, and 90 USD respectively. The three editions all contain the base game and DLC items like a sticker sheet and a holographic ID card from the game’s Mira map, while the exclusive DLC items are different.

Although the popularity of Among Us dropped with the eased lockdown, the latest update seems to make the game popular again. Aside from this, there are still quite a few die-hard fans of the game as the trailer attracts 130,317 views within four days. “We are grateful to the community who continues to share our game with friends and family and support us,” said Victoria Tran, Community Director of Innersloth. “We couldn’t be more excited to create a brand new Among Us experience for our existing fans and new players. We can’t wait for players to become Crewmates in a first-person environment.”
