Plagiarism has always been a common problem in today’s society. This time, plagiarism problems occurred in the live streaming industry.
Plagiarism incident:
Lightstream is a company that provides live streaming services. On November 17, Lightstream reported that Streamlabs copied Lightstream’s typesetting and copywriting from Streamlabs’ official website. The behavior brings not only plagiarism, but also the beginning of misunderstanding for customers.
Not only Lightstream responded to this problem, OBS Studio also reported that
Streamlabs took their project into its own commercial software and registered OBS as
its own trademark to provide users with services. It has caused much trouble for
OBS. The main problem is that the paid members of the company think that there
is a cooperation between the two parties, so if they encounter problems at Streamlabs,
they will go to OBS to complain and ask for a refund.
Compensation and apology:
In the end, Streamlabs admitted to the error and apologized after Lightstream posted a ridiculed Streamlabs official website on November 17 about copied the layout and copyrighting of its official website. Streamlabs posted on November 18 to indicate that the name of OBS would be removed from its own products. However, they did not apologize publicly, which caused dissatisfaction among many users.
